End of the Year Post

I can't believe I am writing the very last post of the year! This year has just flown by! I want to thank you all for the end of the year gifts and notes. Most importantly I want to thank you for sharing your children with me this year. They have grown in confidence and independence and are all so ready for 2nd grade (even though I am not quite ready to let them go!!) I am so proud of them and so grateful for you and all of the support you have shown throughout this year. I truly hope you have a restful, memorable, and enjoyable summer vacation!!

Here are just a few pictures of our end of the year gatherings. Enjoy!

Flag Day and Wonder Project

Thank you so much to everyone that helped make today so special. The children felt so proud singing America the Beautiful and sharing their hard work and classroom routines with you. I have included links to our Wonder Project on American Symbols as well as a short video from the Flag Day concert. Enjoy!

Summer Reading Review

What a fun filled week at Memorial! Between Field Day and getting ready for our Open House it was hard to focus long enough to get anything done...but we sure did! We wrapped up our final writing unit this week. The children learned all about opinion writing. We started by writing about our collections from home and choosing our "best in show." Next we learned how to review a topic and persuade our reader of our opinions. Children reviewed restaurants, games, movies, and so much more! Finally, to close out the unit children chose a favorite book to review and recommend.

They have grown so much as writers this year! They are independent with their topics, excited to share all they know, and this time around convincing with their persuasive voice!! They got to share their reviews in small groups. At the end, we put together a summer reading list, first grade reviewed and approved! Enjoy!
